ڕەنگی کتکەسمۆرەی کلک ڕەش بە گشتی قاوەیی مەیلەو زەردە، وە ڕەنگی ژێر زگیان کاڵترە. خاڵێکی ڕەش لە سەر نووکی کلکی ئەوان دایە، وە ھەر لەبەر ئەمەیە کە پێیان دەگوترێت کلک ڕەش. کێشی کتکەسمۆرەی کلک ڕەشی پێگەیشتوو لە نێوان 680 گرام تا 1.361 کیلۆگرام دایە وە ئاساییانە نێرەکان لە مێکان قورسترن. درێژی جەستەیان لە 14 تا 17 ئینچە، و درێژی کلکی ئەوان 3 تا 4 ئینچ دەبێت. ئەم ئاژەڵانە گوێچکەیان بچووکە، بەڵام زۆر تێژبیسن، وە ھەروەھا چاوی ئەوان بچووک و ڕەشە بەڵام تێژبینە.

Black-tailed prairie dogs were the most common prairie dog species collected in the wild for sale as exotic pets, until this trade was banned in 2003. Prairie dogs in captivity at the time of the ban are allowed to be possessed under a grandfather clause, but no more may be caught, traded, or sold, and transport is only permitted to and from a veterinarian under proper quarantine procedures. The ban was officially lifted on September 8, 2008.[٣]
